Laos: Misty Mekong and Golden Temples

ree

In Luang Prabang, saffron-robed novices wind through morning mist at Wat Xieng Thong, echoing the quiet spirituality of Laos. This serene land of emerald rivers and jungle-clad mountains flows at its own pace. The climate is characterized by a tropical monsoon pattern: a cool, dry season (Nov–Feb), a hot pre-monsoon period (Mar–Apr), and a lush, rainy season (May–Oct). These cycles turn the forests jade-green and swell the Mekong’s flow.

Glide on a wooden longboat through the tranquil 4,000 Islands in the south or paddle on the Mekong under fiery sunsets. Trek the karst jungles of Vang Vieng or chase cascades at Kuang Si Falls outside Luang Prabang. In the Plain of Jars and hilltribe villages, ancient mysteries meet warm smiles. Everywhere from misty rice terraces to candlelit temple courtyards, Laos exudes a timeless, contemplative beauty.
